Robert Schon

Areas of Practice

Tax and estate planning including wills, trusts and powers of attorney. Today Robert’s clients are dominantly individuals and the companies; partnerships; property assets; pension arrangements; investments and trusts they have put in place and assembled over their lifetime. Robert views his work through the prism of the applicable UK tax law with an objective of trying to help clients leave their affairs tidily and without surprises.

Background

Robert was introduced to tax law as part of his undergraduate UK law degree. He followed it up by doing a masters in US tax law; qualifying as a solicitor and spending 15 years as an equity partner in the London corporate tax department of Simmons & Simmons. He saw himself as the bridge between the Simmons private client group and its corporate tax team. Many of his clients were foreign entities – often American-setting up in the UK. Tax (how to structure the investment) is an entry level topic. Having a firm tax foundation gives confidence and integrity to that put in place. Since 2005 Robert has worked on the high street as a tax and estate planning lawyer. He is a member of the Law Society International taxes sub-committee.

Outside Activities

Robert has a busy family life. He is a trustee of his local charity community centre and is its trustee responsible for its links with local schools.
